Kingman and Heritage Island review in Washington, District of Columbia

Kingman Island is a park located in the District off of Benning Road, next to RFK Stadium. The island boasts hiking, fishing, and over a mile of trails. Things To Do Biking: Biking is permitted on the main trail on Kingman Island and on the boardwalk trail. Birding: There are 100 species of resident and migratory birds that can be seen at the park. Boating: Kingman Island can be explored by boat. Visitors can explore the park’s shore to the east on the Anacostia River and to the west on Kingman Lake. Dock access to the island is provided on the boardwalk connecting Kingman and Heritage Islands.* *Note: The waterways surrounding the islands are tidal; please check Current Tide Data before planning your trip. Clean Ups and Service Projects: Organized monthly clean ups are offered, with exception to November, every last Saturday of the month, from 10 am to 12 pm. In November, the clean up will be offered on November 21st. Groups and individuals are also welcome to schedule their own project on the islands. Please note, Service Projects will not be offered during the winter season. Please pick up and properly dispose of their waste. Educational Programs: Educational Programs such as Forest Ecology, Wacky Watersheds, Orienteering, or Teambuilding are available at our Kingman Island location. Please visit the Living Classrooms website to find out more information on the Environmental Center. Fishing: Fishing is allowed in all areas of the park in accordance with DC Laws. Hiking: There is over a mile and a half of trails on the islands to hike and explore. Picnicking: Picnicking is allowed in the park. Please remember to properly dispose of trash and recycling.
